Challenge
Managing wet clothes and swimming gear in changing rooms is a persistent challenge for swimmers, leading to discomfort, hygiene concerns, and space constraints. Current solutions, such as lockers and plastic bags, are unsustainable and either underutilized or ineffective, leaving users struggling with wet, sticky belongings. There is a need for an accessible, efficient, and hygienic system to streamline the post-swimming experience, making the process of drying and reorganizing items more convenient.
Solution
This project reimagines the changing room experience through a service design approach, integrating thoughtful interventions that streamline wet clothes management, drying, and reorganization. By combining user insights, spatial considerations, and operational improvements, our solution creates a hassle-free, hygienic, and efficient system that enhances the way swimmers interact with changing facilities.
Impact
- 85% improvement in swimmers’ satisfaction regarding hygiene and convenience
- Projected 60% reduction in single-use plastic waste
- 70% user acceptance rate noted through surveys and interviews with minimum maintenance cost

Researching the Swimming Experience
We took a holistic approach to understand swimmers’ experiences beyond the pool, exploring their pre-swim, swim, and post-swim routines through interviews, observations, journey mapping, and service blueprinting. Key pain points like wet clothes management, limited space, and hygiene concerns emerged from user research.
By engaging with swimmers, staff, and stakeholders, we identified opportunities for service interventions that enhance comfort, efficiency, and overall convenience, ultimately making the swimming experience more seamless and stress-free.

User Feedback & Insights
Through detailed user testing we captured insights that insured our solution addressed real user needs effectively. Some key takeaways included:
- Costume care: Users worried about heat damage, leading us to select a gentle drying mechanism.
- Hygiene concerns: Queries on machine sanitation led to integrating clear hygiene indicators and processes.
- User patience and convenience: Positive acceptance of a short wait informed our design’s operational timing, aligning well with user routines.
The Solution
Introducing a Smarter Post-Swim Experience
Our service enables swimmers to quickly and conveniently dry their swimwear using mini washing machines installed in club facilities. Users simply scan and pay or insert money, triggering a short sanitization cycle before loading their wet swimwear. The machine then rinses and dries the costume within 3-4 minutes, ensuring a hygienic, hassle-free, and efficient post-swim experience.
